Woo hoo!

I’m so excited to be spotlighting the twelfth special guest for The Twelve Writers of Christmas Facebook Party!

Meet Jacqueline

Jacqueline Patterson.jpgJacqueline Patterson wrote her first book at the age of five: the tale of an assassin hen on the trail of a crafty fox. (OK, so the story wasn’t that epic, but that hen was mean. 😉) That first story hooked her, and she hasn’t stopped since. She is currently editing Primate, the first book in her Forever in Time series, in the hope of publication. . .if she can ever convince herself that she’s found the perfect draft.

Talk to Jacqueline about books, and she will be your friend forever.

– For those who don’t know you, can you share three words to describe yourself?

Intense. Addicted. Dreamer.

-What’s the best thing about being a writer?

The opportunity to open your reader’s eyes to the world that exists —or may not exist— around them. We all want to be a kid again. We want a chance to lose ourselves in our imaginations, to reach through the realm of adulthood and simply dream again. As a writer, I can become anything.

-Writers just might have some of the best jobs. Ever. How has your spiritual walk influenced your writing?

I began writing Primate during a time when I strongly questioned my faith, and I carried that search into Taslor’s questions and quests and fears. I knew God was out there, I knew we would not be here without a Creator, but did He really care about my existence? Did my life matter? Writing Primate scarred me in so many ways. . .and yet it also healed me.

-I have found it amazing how the stories God puts in our hearts, heal us in ways we don’t expect. If you had the ability to jump into any story and live there for a week, what book would you choose?

The Annals of Imperial Rome by Tacitus, because I am a total Ancient Rome freak. Of course, once I’m there, I would end up in an anti-Nero uprising that would change the course of history. I always have to shake things up a bit. 😉

– Talk about awesome! Thanks for chatting with me today, Jacqueline! So excited to have you as one of the special guest’s for the event!

Jacqueline will be chatting from 9:45-10:00 EST. Wonder what she is going to talk about?

You’ll have to stop by the party on December 12th to find out!

Let’s Chat!

– For those who don’t know you, can you share three words to describe yourself?

I’m a follower of Jesus.

– What’s the best thing about being a writer?

The best thing about being a writer is making something out of nothing – instead of like spinning straw into gold it’s like spinning nothing into gold. It’s magical!

– It really is a magical experience! How has your spiritual walk influenced your writing?

I need Jesus so much. He’s everything to me. I think that comes through in my stories. I never feel like I have to force spiritual themes or anything like that. I just write the stories from my head that interest me and my faith comes though into my writing.

– For my last question, if you had the ability to jump into any story and live there for a week, what book what you choose?

I wouldn’t want to go anywhere very dangerous because I’m a mom with young kids that really need me. I guess I’d say Narnia to see Aslan. He’d keep me safe and it would be wonderful to see him.

– It really would be wonderful to see him. Thanks for chatting with me today, Celesta! So excited to have you as one of the special guest’s for the event!

Celesta will be chatting from 9:30-9:45 EST. Wonder what she is going to talk about?

You’ll have to stop by the party on December 12th to find out!

Book Love Friday + Release Day: Viper

Recently I had the honor of not only discovering a new author, Jamie Foley, but also reading an ARC of her prequel novella to The Sentinel Trilogy, Viper.

I was so pleasantly surprised in how awesome her writing is! I mean the way she created languages and brought them to life is something I don’t recall reading in previous novels.

If you want an inside glimpse of what Viper is about, check out this book trailer I made above or read the synopsis below.

About Viper

Viper Jamie Foley.jpgSorvashti is a captive. Jet is a soldier. Both harness the primal power of aether.

The war is over, but the Revoth want their land back. Kidnapping, ransom, and slavery fund their terrorism, but bombing Jet’s hometown was the final straw.

Viper Unit is dispatched to take the Revoth down. But the special forces have no need for a mind-reading ‘fairy’—unless Jet can prove himself as a sniper.

Sorvashti’s clan demands she take one of the seven oaths, but her father’s political status has already chosen for her—and made her a prime target for ransom.

When Jet and Sorvashti meet behind enemy lines, revenge intertwines with survival… and a spark between them neither can ignore.

Bellanok Blog Tour: Author Interview

Woo hoo! I’m so excited to be taking part in the celebration of the release of Ralene Burke’s debut Bellanok!

Today, I’m sharing an interview I had with Ralene about her latest release and unicorns, but let me introduce you to her book, Bellanok.

(Scroll down to the bottom of this post to check out all the other blogs taking part in the tour!)

BellanokANovel.png

A haven for myths and legends . . . until evil discovers a way in.

With evil darkening the mountains to the north, the fairy queen, Fauna, must journey from the island realm of Bellanok to the modern world to find the man the Creator appointed to save their kingdom. A man she has been dreaming of her whole life.

Brian is a down-on-his-luck pastor on the verge of giving up on God. He’s tired and frustrated–a failure. No sooner does he make a decision that jeopardizes his career than an unusual blonde woman shows up and tries to convince him he is some kind of savior.

Let’s Chat!

– Hi Ralene! So excited to be chatting with you today! What are you looking forward to most about Thanksgiving?

I am looking forward to the food! We’re not having any extra family in this year, so it’s my in-laws and my family. We always do it up right, though. Deep fried turkey and all the sides! Not to mention, pumpkin pie. 🙂

pumpkins-1712841_1920.jpg– That sounds so good! When did you first know you wanted to be a writer? Did you imagine wielding a freelance editor sword and social media wand alongside your fantasy writer’s pen?

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. It’s only on some adult advice that I tried to major in something else in college. So, I was in my mid-20s before I actually dove in.

I should have known editing would naturally follow though. I was newsletter editor for so many different things growing up: school, 4-H, creative writing magazine. It wasn’t until I needed to find a way to add to our household income that I started freelancing.

And social media was something I accidentally fell into. I had some people ask me to help with their social media because they liked what I was doing, so I gave it a try. Loved it. And now it’s part of my services!

– How cool! What’s your favorite treat to eat while writing or during writing breaks?

While I write, you’ll often find me snacking on gummy bears or dark chocolate M&Ms. I don’t snack too much though, because I would easily overdo it. If I do, it’ll be while I’m writing, because I’m usually cleaning or talking with the family on writing breaks.

– I love gummy bears. Definitely one of my favorite sweet snacks. You originally released Bellanok as a four-part serial online. How are you feeling knowing that your novel is now in paperback where readers can smell it before reading?

book-863418_1280.jpgRelieved! I love physical books. They are tangible and memorable and . . . I’m just glad that I can offer that to my readers now as well!

– I love physical books, too! Always such a special feeling in being able to turn the pages of your favorite book. You and your characters are going on a lunch date. Yaye! Where do you decide to have lunch at? What do they order?

Brian and I would take Fauna and Roman for burgers and fries. Wait. Technically, Brian already did that. Okay, I’d want to introduce them to Italian food. We’d probably hit Olive Garden for the best breadsticks and pasta.

– Ooo Italian! That sounds delicious. If you had a unicorn, what would you name him or her? Would you ever try to ride him or her?

Well, I kind of think unicorns would come with their own names, so I wouldn’t actually name it. I know, that may sound weird. But I see them as intelligent, you know? If I did have to name one, it would probably be something that sounds ethereal, but nothing is coming to me at the moment.

And, oh yes, I’d be going for a ride!

– What a good point! Lastly, you’ve just got thrown into the world of Bellanok! What do you do? Who do you try to find to help you on this new journey?

Well, assuming you mean thrown into Bellanok during the time of the story, I would head for the Sacred Grove. That’s where the fairies live—and the queen—so I’d find help there.

Of course, that would be kind of a dangerous trek on my own. I’d risk being found by the demon or its minions. Hopefully I could flag down a dragon on patrol.

– Oh man! I hope so, too! I appreciate you stopping by today and letting me chat with you, Ralene.
